Model quality is only part of the dependency: The API is still open, so this is not a service outage. Before shipping an Astra-based feature, confirm that the model remains available in each account and region under the plans your product uses.
Compare representative requests across both models: Measure task success, latency, and cost on Astra and a fallback. If the gap is small, automate the switch. If it is large, tell users clearly that the feature depends on Astra.
The duration of the pause and any API impact remain unknown#
Do not treat today’s capacity as settled: OpenAI has not disclosed how long sign-ups will remain closed or the size of the demand surge. The API and lower-cost plans remain open, but the same pressure could lead to later usage limits.
