The signal from Demo Day
TechCrunch pulled together the YC Demo Day startups named by at least two investors. The list tilts toward AI compute and robotics. Energy is in the mix too. For builders, the next AI wedge may sit beside machines or shop-floor workflows. It may not live inside another browser app. TechCrunch
That does not mean an indie team has to manufacture a robot. Waddle Labs is building an API that turns natural-language instructions into robot control code. Praxis AI converts videos of people at work into robot training data. Both point to a more reachable layer around hardware: integration work and data capture. Validation and operator tools fit there too.
The practical starting point is a customer that already uses a specific machine. Pick one repetitive task. Turn it into an instruction or training-data workflow, then learn whether the customer will pay before expanding the supported hardware list.
